Snowshoeing, ca. 1905

Queen’s University Archives, Kathleen Daly fonds V101.1 SE-1

It’s officially March, and yet there’s no sign of spring. So we still have time to participate in our favourite winter activities, such as skiing, skating and snowshoeing – just like the people in this image. This photograph, found in the photo album from a Kathleen Daly, shows a group of people bundled up against the cold, snowshoeing across the ice in front of Cedar Island. Judging from their clothing, we believe the photo to date from the early 1900’s. Who knows…maybe next time we can feature a photo that celebrates spring!
