Richardson Beach, 1970s

Richardson Beach, Kingston, OntarioRichardson Beach in Macdonald park. This late 1970’s era photograph is from the Wallace Berry studio fonds held here at Queen’s Archives. With the glimpse of the Newlands Pavilion in the background, this technicolour print shows a really active, vibrant and populated waterfront. Bikes and windsurfing boards, walkers, swimmers and tanners (gone are the days!), all out to enjoy the weather. While there are no visible people in the water, one imagines it was a more popular swimming spot than it is today. It may be a bit early in the year to think about swimming, but with it heating up again this week-end, it is never far from mind.
