Queen’s Assault at Arms Team, 1910

Queen's University, Assault at ArmsIt’s Kingston Get Active month! This photograph of the Assault at Arms team at Queen’s University from 1910 highlights a number of the sports you can participate in for free this month at a variety of Kingston gyms and fitness facilities. Assault at Arms teams flourished until the 1940’s in Canadian Universities and featured an eclectic variety of combative sports and exercises. Kingston Get Active month also features an eclectic mix of activities you can participate in. Perhaps try a fencing drop-in, and while there does not appear to be any boxing or wrestling on the schedule there is Mixed Martial Arts and Kickboxing. If “assault” is not your preference, there are other offerings such dance classes and gardening workshops. Whatever your interest, get out there and get active.
