Princess Street, 1950(ish)

Princess Street, Kingston, OntarioCome one, come all to Princess Street on Saturday August 1st for the Princess Street Promenade. This photo taken by Kurt Munn for the City of Kingston Planning department in the late 1950’s shows a very different street than we know today. With two way traffic and a visual clutter of competing signage it is almost hard to recognize. The gentle slope however, down from Montreal Street to the water is a recognizable angle from which pictures of Princess Street have been taken for over one hundred year. This Saturday provides another opportunity to see this street in a different light, car free with kids, dogs, bikes and people roaming unrestricted.
