Opening Ceremony for CORK, 1969
This photograph was taken by Bill Baird on August 24th, 1969. The occasion was the opening ceremony for the Canadian Olympic-training Regatta Kingston (CORK). With the opening gun fired and the CORK flag hoisted the regatta was underway. The waters off of Kingston’s shore offer some of the best fresh-water sailing in the world and August continues to be a busy month for CORK. Over the next week CORK will be hosting an Olympic-class international event in Kingston where there will be boats from Canada, the U.S., Mexico and Europe. It is a rare opportunity to see sailing of this calibre (as well, perhaps, as a less rare opportunity to see men in the classic dress code of socks and shorts), so head down to the shores and watch the activities.
