Things to do when you want to get out of the house this fall

With the fall weather here to stay, you may be looking for some indoor activities and outings to safely participate in. Local businesses and organizations are putting the safety of the community first when offering classes or activities to keep us entertained indoors.

These businesses are ready to host you and your pod or family when you’re looking to escape the house for a little while:

Kingston School of Art (KSOC)

Location: 647a Princess St. (at Victoria)

Phone: 613-549-1528

Email: [email protected]

Website: www.ksoa.info

Covid info link: www.ksoa.info/ksoa-policies.html

With all public health protocols in place, the KSOA welcomes you to our creative community! Join students of all ages and stages of artistic development in developing your creative side, in a fun, social environment. Many studies show the value of art creation in enhancing emotional well-being, and during this particularly stressful time, we can all benefit from the opportunity to learn something new, to connect with others, and to create something beautiful. As Thomas Merton said, “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.”

Located at the corner of Princess St. and Victoria St., the KSOA has been providing Kingstonians with quality art programming for over twenty-five years. The KSOA is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization that welcomes involvement from everyone. Whether you are a complete beginner or more advanced, you will find an accepting and welcoming community at the KSOA. Visit our website: www.ksoa.info

Xtreme Trampoline is heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. They have implemented a new cleaning policy that includes the cleaning of all possible surfaces that are exposed to the public. Hand sanitizing is mandatory and every person entering the building receives a screening including a temperature check.

All four studios have independent entrances into the building and are clearly marked throughout to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Class sizes are limited to ensure adequate spacing for all. Children, from walking to age 5, are to be accompanied by an adult (wearing a mask) to assist our youngest dancers with social distancing during class.

“Music is a World Within Itself with a Language We All Understand” – Stevie Wonder

Since 2016, Inspired Minds Music has been dedicated to providing value-based music lessons to students of all ages from Kingston and surrounding areas.  Our commitment to value includes providing numerous performance opportunities, a variety of affordable tuition rates, a flexible make-up lesson policy, and much more.

Our philosophy considers music to be language, and we believe students should be taught to become fluent.  For a comprehensive music education, we focus on building fundamental skills and independence in our students, so they learn to overcome challenges and plateaus commonly experienced while learning.

In response to COVID-19 we have committed to operating at a reduced capacity, with plexiglass dividers, purifiers, and a minimum of 8-10 feet separating the teacher and student within our studios.  Private waiting rooms are available 5 minutes before your lesson start time.  We have also scheduled a 15-minute break between families to ensure we have ample time to clean our studios and waiting areas.  Make-up lessons may be conducted over Zoom if a student is unable to attend due to COVID screening rules.
