KSSC expands beach volleyball options

Beach volleyball – it’s the idyllic summer sport. The less clothing the better. You’re expected to wear sunglasses. You can’t wear shoes. And because no one wants to do anything in cold or wet sand, it’s most likely going to be played on a warm, sunny day.

The evolution of the sport strikes me as a funny one. They took a 12-person game played indoors on a hard surface and then put it outside on a soft surface and got rid of most of the players. Imagine if they tried that with hockey, or basketball, or bowling? I had often wondered about how polo had ended up going from horseback to in the water, but it turns out they share a name and not much else.

The Kingston Sport and Social Club has recently expanded its beach volleyball offerings. The sport has long been a KSSC staple, and this year they’ve added an extra night to their 6-on-6 league, meaning it’s now available Sunday to Thursday. They have also just added 3-on-3 beach volleyball on Thursday nights, and that is in addition to their 4-on-4 league which runs Monday – Thursday.

On top of all that, they still offer court volleyball in the summer on Thursdays, and they are bringing back beach dodgeball this summer.

All-in-all, this spring and summer (sprummer!), KSSC has 12 outdoor leagues, three indoor leagues, and nine other classes and workshops. It’s the club’s biggest sprummer yet!

The deadline to register at KSSC.ca is Thursday, April 25 at midnight.
