Kingston’s Navy Memorial Park May be Divided

Navy Memorial Park, waterfront condo, Marine Museum, Kingston, OntarioThe proposal for a 20-storey Condo building on the water at the foot of Lower Union Street includes the possibility of splitting the Navy Memorial Park in two, to make an emergency fire access route.

Kingston’s extensive naval connections go back more than 250 years. The plaque on the memorial reads:

IN MEMORY OF THE MEN AND WOMEN
OF THE
ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY
AND THE
MERCHANT NAVY
WHO SERVED THEIR COUNTRY
IN WAR AND PEACE
”WE WILL REMEMBER THEM”

I served in the Navy, my father died serving in the Navy in WW2, my family has a naval tradition and I come from a country that owes a deep debt of gratitude to the Royal Canadian Navy. I am appalled.

Will we remember them?
