Each and every Friday, Kingstonist publishes amazing works produced by local photographers. It’s our way of showing our love, and spreading the good word about the Limestone City’s talented photogs. Searching for and selecting the images that are showcased in our ongoing Friday Foto series got a whole lot easier last January when we launched our very own Flickr group, which has grown to attract over 50 local darkroom enthusiasts. Time and again I am amazed with the professional and captivating shots that our modest group attracts. For the longest time we’ve been trying to come up with a respectable way to show our appreciation to the folks whose work we’ve featured, and admittedly we can’t thank everyone enough. Last week it dawned on us that it’s been far too long since Kingstonist hosted one of our exciting contests. And so, it gives me great pleasure to announce Kingstonist’s first ever Greatest Photo Contest.
The rules are simple. Head on over to Kingstonist’s Flickr group and upload your best images that have been taken in and around Kingston, Ontario. It doesn’t matter if they were snapped today or 10 years ago, so long as they are truly local, and truly yours. Contestants will have until midnight on Friday, November the 5th to submit entries until their heart’s content. From there, Kingstonist’s jury will comb through the submissions and come away with a small group of select images. Last but not least comes the fun part, where we’ll turn to our readers to vote for their favourite photo from November 8th until the 14th.
The person responsible for snapping the best shot will be given a $50 gift certificate to Camera Kingston care of the folks at Kingstonist. For those who are unfamiliar with Camera Kingston, it is a downtown fixture, which attracts folks who love and understand terms such as aperture, iso and histogram. So, just what would you spend your winnings on? Will you put it towards a new lens, or order a nice print just in time for holiday gift giving? The choice is yours, but you have to win first. Get snapping, and get uploading!
