Kingston Penitentiary Illustrations, 1875

With tours of Kingston Penitentiary starting tomorrow we thought we’d share these Kingston Penitentiary scenes from the Canadian Illustrated News of September 25th, 1875. These illustrations are still recognizable in the built structures which are in place today: the rotunda of the central dome, and the vaulted ceilings of the work rooms are still intact. The future of the Kingston Penitentiary is also being considered through a number of visioning exercises that the City of Kingston is undertaking, be sure to get involved if you have something to share.
