One of the truest signs of spring around the Limestone City is the re-opening of Kingston’s one and only drive-in movie theatre. Last summer we visited the Kingston Family Funworld on two separate occasions. The first double feature we took in consisted of Iron Man, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, while the second was Wall-E, and Get Smart. In comparison to last summer’s selection, this summer we’re being treated to blockbuster after blockbuster. A short list in order of release date:
- X-Men Origins: Wolverine (1 May)
- Star Trek (today, 8 May)
- Angels and Demons (15 May)
- Terminator Salvation (21 May)
- Night At The Museum 2: Battle Of The Smithsonian (22 May)
- Pixar’s Up (29 May)
- Land of the Lost (5 June)
- Year One (19 June)
- Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (24 June)
- Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (1 July)
- Bruno (10 July)
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (15 July)
- G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra (7 August)
- Inglorious Basterds (21 August)
Keep in mind that all screenings are double features, and that the cost is $10/adults, $2/kids, or $16 on carload nights. I can’t wait for our first trip, which will likely be May 16th. What movies are you looking forward to? Special thanks to julep67 for her photo of the Kingston Family Funworld’s Drive-In at dusk.
Another close (1.25 hours from Kingston) drive-in is the one in Port Elmsley, just outside Smiths Falls: http://www.portelmsleydrivein.com/
I should point out that the drive-in did not get Angels and Demons as they advertised. Hopefully, they won’t miss out on too many other blockbusters. That one would have made for a great double feature with the likes of Star Trek or Terminator.
