The Kingston Coalition Against Poverty will be hosting a fundraising concert for the Kingston Street Mission this week.

The concert will help to raise funds for the Kingston Street Mission, an organization that opens its doors at Gill Hall of St. Andrew’s church to Kingston’s homeless and impoverished six nights a week. Kingston Street Mission provides warmth, friendship, emergency clothing, blankets, refreshments and much more. The group is in need of donations to pay for much-needed kitchen renovations which are estimated at $20,000.

The concert will feature two bands; The Goodnight Irenes and MTMBRYOYO (pronounced ‘empty embry yo-yo’). The Goodnight Irenes are a local band specialising in folk, blues, classic country and bluegrass. With a repertoire spanning over eight decades, they have over 500 songs – both originals and covers – in their collection.

MTMBRYOYO is an experimental live trip hop band, recently known as Hot Dogma and also known as Polka Dot Casket. Their style is evolving as their name and was recently formed by two former members of the Thuggees.

The show is 19+ and is being held from 8 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019 at The Mansion, located at 506 Princess St. Tickets are $5 at the door or pay-what-you-can.

Kingston Street Mission opens six nights a week out of Gill Hall at St. Andrew’s church in downtown Kingston. The organization offers a warm place to socialize and relax, as well as emergency clothing and blankets to the homeless community in the city.
