Dare Devil Detective!! In the archival papers of Edwin C. Guillet we hold a number of issues of Dare Devil Detective and World Wide Detective, two “true crime” publications. Guillet was an academic historian educated at the University of Toronto and MacMaster University. He received an LLD from Queen’s University in 1960. Officially he was employed as a historiographer for the Ontario Department of Education and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation. As a sideline he wrote numerous stories for pulp magazines such as this one. In this particular issue, Guillet’s story “The Shooting of Ethel Smith” involves the suspected killer’s abandonment of their car just outside Kingston. Both Dare Devil Detective and World Wide Detective were published by Daring Publishing Company located at 746 Broadview Avenue in Toronto: “produced in Canada on Canadian paper by Canadian workmen.”
