Guide to Pride 2013

Kingston Pride, GuideThis Friday marks the beginning of two weeks of celebrations for Kingston’s LGBTQ community.  This is Kingston Pride‘s 24th anniversary and the Pride Board of Directors has been working hard to create two weeks of great ways to celebrate.  Events vary from parties and art shows, to live music, a pageant, bbqs, the annual boat cruise and of course, the ever growing Kingston Pride Parade.  Here is a guide outlining the many events.  Everyone is welcome to participate.

Friday, May 31st: Official flag raising ceremony 2pm-3pm – at Confederation Park.

Saturday, June 1st: Rainbowl, 6pm and 8pm – Garrison Lanes will host two free games of  black light bowling.  Shoe rental is required.  There will be two sessions: Youth/Family bowling from 6pm-8pm and Adult bowling from 8pm-10pm.  The location is licensed under LLBO and fully accessible.

Saturday, June 1st: Mr and Miss Kingston Pride Pageant, 9pm – An opportunity for the Drag World to come out and compete for Mr & Miss Kingston Pride at Time To Laugh.  Hosted by Miss Tyffanie Morgan with opening act Just Boyz.  Admission is $10.  Pageant applications are due at HARS on May 29th.

Sunday, June 2nd: Rainbowl, 1pm-3pm – Garrison Lanes will host two free games of  black light bowling fore youths and families.  Shoe rental is required.  The location is licensed under LLBO and fully accessible.

Tuesday, June 4th- Sunday, June 16th: Kingston Pride Art Show at Window Art Gallery – Art submission deadline is May 20th – up to 3 pieces for consideration per artist.

Thursday, June 6th: Gay Best Friend film screening, 7pm and 9pm – Reelout and PFLAG Kingston are proud to present Gay Best Friend, the brand new teen comedy from director Darren Stein (Jawbreaker).  The film will play twice at Sydenham Street United Church.  $10 admission, free for youth under 18.  This location is fully accessible.

Friday, June 7th: Out On The Queen boat cruise, 9pm sharp –  The Queen will depart the docks at 253 Ontario St. Advance tickets are $2, $25 at the door (boat).  Show your ticket for free admission to the after party at Revolutions.

Saturday, June 8th: HARS Pride Bash, 9:30pm – Revolutions Night Club, $5 cover.  19+

Sunday, June 9th: Kingston Unitarian Fellowship Service, 10:30am – A non-denominational worship service.  Fully accessible.

Sunday, June 9th: Pride Family BBQ, 12pm-4pm – Come to The Grad Club for a family bbq and children’s activities.  Burgers (veggie and meat) available for purchase.

Wednesday, June 12th – Friday, June 14th: How to Bake a Pie in 10 Steps or Less: A Transgender Fairytale, 7:30pm – Come to the Vogt Studio (Carruther’s Hall, Queen’s) for a campy, queer retelling of the classic fairy tale, Cinderella.  Thursday’s performance will include a talk back after the show.  $10 sliding scale.

Friday, June 14th: Amateur Comedy Night, 9pm – Hosted by Forces Comedy Tour, come on out to Ben’s Pub and show how funny you are!  Admission is $2.00).

Saturday, June 15th: PFLAG Pride Breakfast, 8:30am-11am – Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  Start your Pride Parade Day on the right foot at Sydenham Street United Church. $5.00 donation per person.

Saturday, June 15th: Kingston Pride Parade and Family Event, 11:30am-5pm – Welcome addresses from Pride dignitaries will begin at 11:30am at City Park and the parade will leave at 12pm sharp.  Following the parade there will be music, a drag show, and cake back at the park.

Saturday, June 15th: Rainbowl, 7pm – Garrison Lanes will host two free games of  black light bowling.  Shoe rental is required.  The location is licensed under LLBO and fully accessible.

Saturday, June 15th: Pride Finale Parties, 9pm-2am – Revolutions and The Grad Club.  DJ Luc will be at The Grad Club and the in house DJ will be spinning at Revolutions.  $5 at the door.

Sunday, June 16th: Worship Service, 10:30am – Sydenham Street United Church.  Fully accessible.

Sunday, June 16th: Kingston Art Pride Show Prize Giving, 2pm.  Window Art Gallery.  1st place: $250; 2nd place: $150; 3rd place (people’s choice): $100.
