Since Writer’s Fest is now under way, it’s fitting that the Calvin Park Public Library is having its grand re-opening today. The $5.3 million 10,000 sq/ft facility was designed to meet silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards, and will comply with Ontario’s accessibility regulations. Thus far I’ve only seen the exterior of the new Calvin Park branch, as well as a few renderings of what the inside might look like. Needless to say, I am excited to finally step foot inside. In case you miss the opening today, I’m sure you can sneak a peek of Calvin Park later this weekend, that is, so long as you can fit it into your busy schedule. Tonight you can hit up any number of events from The Frontenacs game to the Calamity Janes show, or even the late-night Spike the Punch Literary Cabaret, which is a part of Writer’s Fest. Tomorrow night, join us at the Soul Shakedown instead of getting trampled on Aberdeen. And although it pains me to say it, this Sunday may be out last opportunity to enjoy the Sunday Market without a coat. Thanks to Laura Carter for her picture of CalPark late in the construction phase.
