#ygkChallenge: Donate a Book

Donate a BookWelcome to Kingstonist’s weekly challenge, dare, resolution or whatever you prefer to call it. Each week we establish a new and ambitious community goal, encouraging our readers, followers, friends and families to step out of their comfort zones and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. Consider this your official and personal invitation to join us in completing a small but meaningful achievement. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston a slightly better place to live, work and play. And of course, we also hope that you will feel proud of your contribution and achievement.

This week’s challenge encourages you to:

Give someone else the gift of knowledge.  We’ve all got that stack of books taking up space on our floors, in our closets, on our bookshelves – you know the one.  Books you’ve read, books you’ll never read and a few that you might get around to.  Sometimes you read a book you know you’ll want to peruse again but generally, once you’ve read it, a book simply sits and takes up space.  Why not share the joy of a great story with someone else, and purge at the same time?  Take some time over the next week and sort out the books that you know you no longer need and make a donation. You can always bring a load to the Sally Ann or the Goodwill but there are also other local operations looking for book donations.  KGH accepts books and magazines for their waiting rooms, The Kingston Symphony will be collecting books in October for their annual book sale, Calvin Park Library accepts books in all languages for their Multicultural collection as does Immigrant Services Kingston.  So, take the time and share the joy of reading.

Sign up and commit to completing this week’s challenge by commenting below with an “I’m in“, “challenge accepted“, “en garde” or something along those lines. Further, help us spread the word via Twitter and Facebook by sharing the link and encouraging the participation of your friends and family. By joining together in our weekly challenge, we hope to accomplish big and positive things for our community.

Thanks to Ben Oh for today’s picture.
