Carruthers Family Collection

Carruthers Family collection, John Bell CarruthersSchool’s out for summer!!

This lovely photograph from the Carruthers family collection shows two of the younger members of the family enjoying a rafting adventure at the cottage. The Carruthers Family collection contains photographic negatives taken by John Bell Carruthers with the subject matter usually being his family or friends; the settings are generally at one of the Carruthers’ family homes in Kingston or the cottage at Carruthers point. There are many shots of people being active in the water at Carruthers Point. Once a year, the Carruthers would bring children from a Kingston area orphanage out to the cottage for a day of swimming and recreation. The Girl Guides bought the cottage at Carruthers Point, and it is still there on the grounds of what is now InVista on Front Road.
