#ygkChallenge: Read a Book Written by a Local Author

The #ygkchallenge is an ongoing series where we dare you to be different, resolve to be better, and or do something awesome in support of our beloved community. Each week, Kingstonist establishes a new, ambitious or quirky goal, encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston (and the world) a slightly better place to live, work and play.

This week’s #ygkchallenge encourages you to:

Read a Book Written by a Local Author. In a city that is punching well above its weight in terms of the number of talented authors who call Kingston home, keeping up with them all is a challenging feat. As March is recognized as National Reading Month, what better time than now to add a few local reads to the top of that ever growing stack of books in the queue.  Our list of suggested authors spans everything from fiction to non, and it’s all conveniently linked to what’s available via your local Kingston Frontenac Public Library branch.  Here’s a dozen Kingston-base authors to keep you reading: Ray Argyle, Steven Heighton, Helen Humphreys, Ying S. Lee, Leanne Lieberman, Iain Reid, Armand Garnet Ruffo, Lawrence Scanlan, Paul Schliesmann, Diane Schoemperlen, Merilyn Simonds, Sarah Tsiang.
