#ygkChallenge: Local Indie Playlist
Welcome to Kingstonist’s weekly challenge, dare, resolution or whatever you prefer to call it. Each week we establish a new and ambitious community goal, encouraging our readers, followers, friends and families to step out of their comfort zones and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. Consider this your official and personal invitation to join us in completing a small but meaningful achievement. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston a slightly better place to live, work and play. And of course, we also hope that you will feel proud of your contribution and achievement.
This week’s challenge encourages you to:
Spread the word about your favourite local indie musicians. Kingston may be on the verge of naming a street after the Tragically Hip, but there are many other local up and coming bands who are worth a listen or two. Whether you’re a longtime fan or have just discovered a new local band or tune that you can’t get enough of, we want to know! Let’s show some support for our awesome music scene, and assemble one heck of a local indie playlist.
Sign up and commit to completing this week’s challenge by responding with the name of your favourite local band, one of their best tunes, music videos or something along those lines. Further, help us spread the word via Twitter and Facebook by using the hashtag: #ygkchallenge. As you work towards completing this week’s task, please feel free to lend others a helping hand by providing tips on how you achieved success.
Thanks to CameraKarrie for today’s photo.
Hard to just name one or two bands, there are heaps of good ones locally! Pelt!, PS I Love YOU, Ianspotting all deserve shout outs.
Tom Savage Trio, http://www.youtube.com/user/tomsavagetrio?blend=7…
I love anything off the County Line disc. Also, Jay Harris and the Transceivers "The Only Enemy" is a great one…is he still in town? Haven't seen him for ages.
The Tom Savage Trio is one of those bands I've heard of, seen their posters etc… but never taken the time to listen to/go see. Thanks for sharing that song!
Basalisk – https://www.reverbnation.com/basalisk
Chasing Me is probably my favourite track off their new EP.
They're competing at the Krock Bandslam this year on January 23rd, if you like what you hear.
Sleuth Bears (their Cd release was sold out this past fall). PS I Love You (new album soon….).
Paul Langlois's label Ching Music is a great source for local talent too.
Out of time, but certainly not out of place… Wolfe Island's own Sheesham and Lotus (& Son)… http://vimeo.com/28234815
Also based on Wolfe Island, the evergreen Chris Brown's Open Hearts Society… http://www.openheartssociety.com/
And anyone who hasn't heard just how great Miss Emily Fennell when she does soul rather than country can sound should check this out… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Jeg-Xk5IxE
