Today is the first unofficial holiday of the Summer: Victoria Day! That likely means your coolers are fully stocked, the grill is prepped, and you’ve got big plans to hang out with friends and family and reminisce about surviving another wretched winter. The arrival of Victoria Day also means that June and Summer are nearly within reach, which translates into far more palatable temperatures, the conclusion of yet another school year and the possibilities afforded by Summer vacation. Looking towards June and beyond, the level of activity in Kingston and the surrounding area is clearly taking off, giving locals and tourists alike more options for fun than they can shake a stick at. At first glance, the local community events calendar for June includes big festivals, numerous live concerts and theatre performances as well as a few sporting events to help you get active. Accordingly, this week’s poll asks:
Which festival/event in June 2015 are you looking forward to the most?
- Skeleton Park Arts Festival (58%, 134 Votes)
- Beat Beethoven Run (21%, 48 Votes)
- Jerry Seinfeld (10%, 22 Votes)
- SUUNS with Jerusalem in my Heart Concert (10%, 22 Votes)
- Cannonball Rush (1%, 3 Votes)
- Caught in the Net, Domino Theatre (0%, 1 Votes)
Total Voters: 230
A few short weeks ago, our Springtime celebrations were somewhat dashed by random flurries and unseasonably cool temperatures, which continue to linger. Normally the May-long weekend spells big gardening projects for our household, while we’ve thrown caution to the wind this year by planting our garden and hoping everything will survive the brisk evenings. That said, I’m certainly not complaining about the weather at this time of year, as I’ve been enjoying soaking up every last drop of sunshine after work and on the weekends. Patios are once again plentiful, and I’m still holding out on cutting the grass for the first time this season. Things couldn’t be better, and I for one am planning on having the best Summer ever!
Kingston is truly coming to life, and June is a great month to venture out in flip flops and check out all the fantastic things the city’s arts and culture scene has to offer. Take the time to vote for your favourite event in June 2015 and drop us a line to plug events we should have included. Planning something really awesome for July, August and beyond? Be sure to add it to our calendar, which is where we look to scout things out for polls and guides to the city’s best events.
Thanks to Skeleton Park Arts Festival for today’s photo.
