Most Anticipated Events in April 2015 in Kingston

best april events in Kingston, OntarioEven though small piles of dirty snow and ice continue to lurk in the shady corners of Kingston, many of us have already put the shovels away, taken snow tires off and stowed most of our winter gear until next year. April will soon be upon us, which means colourful Easter egg hunts for some, and impractical flip flops for all! The arrival of Spring 2015 also means that our calendars and dance cards are starting to fill up with fantastic local flavour and fun. There are dozens upon dozens of events big and small to choose from. My initial glimpse at the calendar highlights live concerts, theatre performances and chances to root, root, root for the home team. Accordingly, this week’s poll asks:

Which festival/event in April 2015 are you looking forward to the most?

  • The Tragically Hip Concert (74%, 215 Votes)
  • Kingston Frontenacs Playoffs (14%, 41 Votes)
  • Limestone Race Weekend (6%, 17 Votes)
  • Lisa LeBlanc Concert (4%, 11 Votes)
  • Dogfight (1%, 3 Votes)
  • Silver Dagger (1%, 3 Votes)

Total Voters: 290

I think I speak for many Kingstonians when I bid good riddance to Winter 2015. Recency effect aside, we really did get pummeled by Old Man Winter this year, and the fact that many of us were running out of places to shovel snow made dealing with Winter all the more difficult. I was also growing weary of status updates and headlines that read “Massive Pileup on the 401…” and “Road Closure due to Pipe Burst”. Even so, what’s in the past is in the past, and I’m reminded of happier days to come thanks to the friendly street sweeper I’ve seen making the rounds downtown, the growing patches of greenish grass and sudden uptick in the number of outdoor running enthusiasts.

Kingston is undeniably coming to life, and April is a fantastic month to come out of hibernation once and for all and check out all the great things the city’s arts and culture scene has to offer. Take the time to vote for your favourite event in April 2015 and drop us a line to plug events we should have included. Planning something really awesome for April or beyond in Kingston? Be sure to add it to our calendar, which is where we look to scout things out for polls and guides to the city’s best events.

Thanks to David Bastedo for today’s photo.

It is so sad that the two solitudes still exist in terms of cultural events; it is great that the Centre Culturel Frontenac is now presenting its shows in a Kingston English speaking venue! Lisa Leblanc is an Acadian signer…who could be enjoyed bu both cultures!
