At the movies in Kingston: May 31 edition

Welcome back to ‘At the movies in Kingston.’ Magic carpet rides will get stomped on by monsters at the box office this week.
Here is what’s new at the Kingston theatres for the week starting Friday, May 31, 2019.
Landmark Cinemas:
Godzilla: King of the Monsters brings the giant lizard back to the big screen. This time, Godzilla is the hero and called on to fight off an invasion of other monsters led by his nemesis King Ghidorah.
Rocketman brings the life of musician Elton John to the big screen. Directed by Dexter Fletcher of Bohemian Rhapsody fame, this bio pic will chart the rise of an unknown singer to the superstar that Elton John is.
Ma stars Octavia Spencer as a loner that uses her new friendship with some teens in town to terrorize the unsuspecting kids.

Cineplex Odeon:
The Saturday morning 10 am Family Favourites is A Dog’s Way Home. If you are a fan of the recent A Dog’s Journey come check out the first film in the series.
Sunday at 12:55 the Studio Ghibli fest continues with the showing of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Ma, and Rocketman also open this weekend at Cineplex.

Tolkien chronicles the early years of The Lord of the Rings author. From his friendships to his service in World War I, viewers will have a chance to see the events that inspired the author.
Peterloo is the story of the 1819 massacre of peaceful democracy protesters holding a rally on St. Peter’s Field in Manchester, England.
The Bikes of Wrath tells the story of five Australians who recreate the 2600 km trip from Oklahoma to California which the Joad family from the Steinbeck novel The Grapes of Wrath undertook.

Kingston Family Fun World Drive-In has Godzilla: King of the Monsters and John Wick: Chapter 3 on Screen 1, A Dog’s Journey and The Hustle on Screen 2, and Aladdin and Dumbo on Screen 3.

The Bikes of Wrath looks like a fascinating documentary that blends the narrative of John Steinbeck with modern day travelers.
There are so many options for movies in Kingston, and in a few weeks ‘Movies in the Square’ will begin bringing Kingston residents another viewing experience.
