Kingston Arts Council announces launch of 2019 City of Kingston Arts Fund Program

Applications are now being accepted for the 2019 City of Kingston Arts Fund Program (CKAF), the Kingston Arts Council announced on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019.

Administered by the Kingston Arts Council on behalf of the City of Kingston, a total of $587,000 in funding is available through the program, which is comprised of two funding streams: operating grants and project grants. The program provides grants to local arts organizations and collectives “to foster creativity at all levels and enrich how Kingston residents experience and engage with the arts,” Kingston Arts Council said in a press release.

“CKAF is intended to nurture the capacity of artists and the arts sector in Kingston and cultivate a thriving arts scene for local artists and patrons, encourage social cohesion, enhance quality of life and stimulate economic development through direct investment,” the Arts Council said.

“CKAF also aims to bring provincial, national and international recognition to Kingston as a center for arts and culture.”

Applications for both the operating grant and project grant programs are due on Wednesday, Apr. 17, 2019 by 5 p.m., so there is still plenty of time for local art organizations and collectives to explore options and learn more.

One way for applicants to learn more is through one-on-one meetings Felix Lee, Kingston Arts Council Grants Coordinator, or through the CKAF Information Session on Tuesday, Mar. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Calvin Park Branch of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library. The session is intended for new applicants and will include a review of the 2019 CKAF guidelines and assessment criteria, as well as a question and answer session regarding the grant process.

The Kingston Arts Council will also host a grant writing workshop on the basics of effective grant writing, budgeting, and project management. The workshop will be led by Norma Garcia, an arts administrator, grants consultant and independent filmmaker based out of Toronto. The workshop will take place on Saturday, Mar. 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the rehearsal hall of the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning.
