This image, taken by photographer George Lilley, depicts the Remembrance Day ceremony held at the Cross of Sacrifice in 1949. The Cross of Sacrifice monument, located in Macdonald Park by the Murney Tower, was unveiled on May 17 1925, with more than 3000 people attending the ceremony. The monument was sponsored by the Kingston Chapter of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire (IODE) to honour those Kingston men and women who gave their lives in the Great War. The Cross of Sacrifice also became a monument to those who died in the Second World War and the Korean War. The Remembrance Day Civic Ceremony starts at 9:15 on Friday, November 11.
