Kingstonist’s Big Birthday Contest Winner
This year, Kingstonist’s Big Birthday Contest challenged our readers to unscramble images, fill in the blanks on local historic plaques and signs, as well as use Google Streetview to determine certain points of view. Admittedly this difficult contest was more involved than anything we’d concocted in the past. Even so, nearly 200 readers downloaded the official game sheet, and we’d received nearly 60 entries by the deadline.
Now that the results have been tallied, we are proud to to crown Naila Jinnah (@nailaj) as the grand champion. She’ll be enjoying a $50 gift certificate (on us) to the downtown business of her choice (she chose Olivea), as well as one of the first Kingstonist tees we’ve given away!
For those of you who requested the answers, they are as follows:
- Arrowhead Beach Park
- Regiopolis Notre Dame (RND)
- Harold Harvey
- Cataraqui Golf and Country Club
- Megalos
- Richard Rush and Charles Bagot
- Degonwadonti, someone who lends her flower
- John, Jeremiah, James
- Captain, Major, Orange Lodge
- Frederick Haldimand, Michael Grass
- 1079 Woodbine, Holy Cross
- 326 Days, Frontenac Institution
- 537 Kingston Mills, Kingston Mills
- Centennial and Wheathill
- 145 William, Sydenham Street United
Thanks to all who entered this year’s Big Birthday Challenge. I hope it was as fun for you to attempt as it was for us to create so many skill testing questions. And of course, thanks once again for all the birthday wishes yesterday. As a special treat, we’re rewarding individuals who commented (via Kingstonist), liked (on Facebook) and tweeted our Birthday status yesterday, with one of our new tees! We hope you’ll wear them proud!
Special thanks to Jonty Wareing for today’s dermatologically challenged photo.

That was definitely a tough challenge.
