Skiing is a favourite pastime for most winter enthusiasts, and that includes a whole lot of Kingstonians. Unfortunately, a quick 10 or 20 minute jaunt to a local ski hill isn’t an option in ygk but we do have quite a few places nearby to hit the slopes if we’re willing to put in a bit more time on the road.
Of course, we can always make a weekend of it and make a trip along the 401 to Quebec or north of Toronto, or head across the border to upstate New York for some quality ski hills, but what about day trips? Or maybe driving 4-5 hours with a couple of kids in the back seat isn’t the most appealing choice. Fortunately, there are some options within just a couple of hours of Kingston.
While we typically like to stay close to home here on Kingstonist, talking about local skiing, much like talking about local wine or local beaches, makes it tricky to stay within our city’s borders, so this week’s poll is venturing out of town. Being the middle of winter and with Family Day coming up and school ski trips happening on a weekly basis, this week we want to know:
Tells us about your choice for the best ski hill near Kingston. What makes it your favourite place for a skiing daytrips or a quick overnight? Are your lured strictly by the size and number of runs or perhaps you’re looking for a more well-rounded experience that includes cross-country skiing, snow shoeing and tubing. Of course, like most things, price is probably an important factor as well. Tell us about your skiing experiences and preferences around Eastern Ontario.
