Best Ice Cream, Froyo and Gelato in Kingston

best ice cream, best gelato, best frozen yogurt, Kingston, OntarioIt’s been a hot, dry summer – the perfect excuse for indulging in large amounts of cold, creamy treats. Luckily for us, Kingston has an abundance of options when it comes to ice cream, frozen yogurt and gelato. When we last visited this subject, Menchie’s and Marble Slab were brand new players on the scene. Cold Stone had also recently opened its doors and has since closed. Menchie’s and Marble Slab have stayed strong and long lasting favourites White Mountain and Mio Gelato continue to be Kingston staples.  Parfait is the newest addition, specializing in self-serve fresh and frozen yogurt. While we have yet to visit this new downtown establishment, Kingstonians appear to be excited about its recent opening whenever I walk by.

Considering both locally owned purveyors of frozen treats and the tried and true franchises, this week we want to know:

Save for White Mountain, all of these establishments remain open throughout the year, which is great for those of us who have a hankering for creamy cold deliciousness even in January. It’s great to see that more than half of the businesses on this list are local. While I do love a Dairy Queen Blizzard or a bowl of World Class Chocolate from Baskin-Robbins every now and then, it always feels great supporting the local guys – and it’s even more satisfying when you truly love the product they’re serving. I love walking down Ontario Street on a summer evening and seeing the lines coming out of White Mountain and Mio Gelato. And, while I’m not a Kingstonian by birth, I’ve heard many a nostalgic tale about Reid’s Dairy‘s loonie shakes and their infamous train.

So, what makes one scoop better than the other in your opinion? Do wild, innovative flavours draw you in or are you more excited to be able to customize your treat? Whatever the case may be, the abundance of options shows just how much Kingstonians love our frozen treats! Tell us all about your favourite in the comments below.

Thanks to ashton for today’s yummy pic.
