Best Garden Centre in Kingston

It doesn’t entirely seem like it as I sit here on yet another cold, gloomy day but gardening season is upon us. Most of us Ontario gardeners look at the May long weekend as the perfect time to get our planting done. Local garden centres began setting up shop well over a month ago in anticipation of the flower and plant buying frenzy that happens every May. There are lots of places to pick up annuals and perennials as well as edible seedlings for your veggie garden in and around Kingston. Like in any bigger Canadian city, Home Depot, Loblaws, Canadian Tire and other large corporate stores that specialize in home related products have garden centres, and many of them do a good job of offering a variety of plants. We have found, however, that it often takes visiting more than one of these centres to find everything on our wish list.

In recent years, Harvey and I have focused on fulfilling our gardening needs by visiting local garden centres, and even smaller grocery stores to find not only what we are looking for, but a wide assortment of unique, harder to find plants. Not only do they offer a great variety, but the prices always blow the big stores out of the water. With planting season just around the corner, we want to take a minute to celebrate the wonderful, locally owned businesses that make our gardens grow.

As always, we try to stay within city limits but sometimes with posts like this one, it’s necessary to take a few steps out of Kingston proper. This week, we want you to tell us:
