The #ygkchallenge is an ongoing series where we dare you to be different, resolve to be better, and or do something awesome in support of our beloved community. Each week, Kingstonist establishes a new, ambitious or quirky goal, encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston (and the world) a slightly better place to live, work and play.
This week’s #ygkchallenge encourages you to:
Take the Belle Park survey. Belle Park is an 80-acre park situated on a landfill located off of Montreal Street and stretching out to the shores of the Cataraqui River. The park includes a 5,900 yard 9-hole golf course and a driving range, as well as a clubhouse facility, multi-use courts, open park space and pathways along the waterfront for hiking or bike rides. In recent years the number of golfers at Belle Park has decreased significantly and in 2016 the Belle Park Working Group recommended that city council “direct staff to explore options to reduce, modify or eliminate some or all golf activity and increase alternate outdoor recreational and naturalization opportunities at Belle Park”. Now, the city is asking for your input though an online survey. This week we challenge you to have your say and let the city know what you would like to see happen on this piece of waterfront property. If you would like an alternate option for filling out the survey, contact the city at 613-546-0000 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The survey is open until August 9th.
Join us in completing this week’s #ygkchallenge by liking it on Facebook and/or re-Tweeting it on Twitter. By liking and sharing, you’re not only committing to doing something great, but you’re also helping us spread the word and hopefully encouraging others to participate.
