The #ygkchallenge is an ongoing series where we dare you to be different, resolve to be better, and or do something awesome in support of our beloved community. Each week, Kingstonist establishes a new, ambitious or quirky goal, encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston (and the world) a slightly better place to live, work and play.
This week’s #ygkchallenge encourages you to:
Register to have your recycling audited. The City of Kingston wants to recognize its Remarkable Recyclers – and engage the community in taking up the #WasteNotYGK challenge to divert 60 per cent of residential waste from landfill by 2018. The Remarkable Recycler challenge is part of the wider #WasteNotYGK challenge – it challenges all Kingstonians to reduce their waste by: buying less packaging and waste; buying or trading second-hand items; and using their green bins and blue and grey boxes to divert residential waste from landfill.
Do you know how to put out Styrofoam, plastic bags or tetra-paks for collection? Register to participate by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling the City’s customer service centre at 613-546-0000 by Friday, Oct. 7. Participants will have their collectibles audited for sorting accuracy during the collection weeks of Oct. 10 or 17 If your waste is correctly sorted and you’ve set out one bag of garbage or less, your household will get remarkable recycler blue and grey boxes. Successful participants will have their names entered in a random draw for a Kobo e-reader.
Join us in completing this week’s #ygkchallenge by liking it on Facebook and/or re-Tweeting it on Twitter. By liking and sharing, you’re not only committing to doing something great, but you’re also helping us spread the word and hopefully encouraging others to participate.
