Harvey Kirkpatrick – Founder, Editor, Contributor

Harvey Kirkpatrick, secret identity of Harvey Kirkpatrick, I listen to bands that don't even exist yetFor starters, I created the persona of Harvey Kirkpatrick by incorporating the surname of Kingston’s first Mayor, Thomas Kirkpatrick, with the first name of His (former) Worship, Harvey Rosen.  I’m definitely not fond of the limelight, and for that reason, I prefer that the curtains remain partially drawn for the time being.  Even so, I’m certain that if one were so inclined, my secret identity is not too difficult to figure out.

So who’s the guy behind the Storm Trooper mask? Believe it or not, it’s me. I was born in Kingston in the early 80′s, and raised in a small bedroom community about half an hour northwest of the City.  In 1999 I enrolled at Queen’s, and went onto complete a BA in Psychology and Geography.  Upon graduating, I remained in the Limestone City to stay close to my family, pay off my student debt, and live in sin with my girlfriend, who I am now lucky to call my wife.

I love to travel, although in the grand scheme of things, I truly believe that Kingston has a lot of places beat.  When Danielle and I launched Kingstonist back in 2008, our goal was to engage the community and uncover stories and perspectives that were going unnoticed.  As you may know, I’m passionate about the environment, volunteering, public transportation, the erosion of public space, the local food movement and Kingston’s music scene.  Through Kingstonist, I want to encourage a well rounded dialogue of relevant issues, and also help ensure that Kingston remains a nurturing and enriching place to live, work and play.

I enjoy movies, and not just those that centre around galaxies that are far, far away.  Hip Hop is the (other) love of my life. I have a day job, but I’d rather mention the fact that I also own and operate a small design shop called HC Concepts (HC2). When I’m not working for the man, graphic design, photography, running, wasting away in pubs, attempting home repairs and catering to the needs of my cat, also keep me busy.
