Before I moved to Kingston for a job last year, I was a bit of a Littlest Hobo, although with a much crankier outlook than my namesake. Coming to Kingston was a total crap shoot for me, but a handful of amazing nights in this town visiting several dear friends–as well as the memories of some truly amazing meals–made me figure there were worse places to be. I was totally right, and then some. While I’ve lived and worked in larger and arguably more exciting urban centres like Vancouver, Toronto, and Ottawa, I’ve never felt more at home and more connected to my community than I do here in Ktown. I love this town’s DIY attitude, its wacky and wonderful restaurants, pubs, and bars, and the fact that every band I ever want to see seems to make a stop here.
When I’m not writing for Kingstonist, I work as a librarian at the Kingston Frontenac Public Library. I am an obsessive reader, and I chronicle my literary loves at Girl In This Room, an occasional blog about what I’m reading, writing, watching, and listening to. My arrival in Kingston also helped me rekindle my long-dormant relationship with yoga, and you can usually find me saluting the sun in one of our town’s many lovely independent yoga studios. I am also a recovering music geek, and I love to sing, play piano, and go to shows whenever I can.
