#ygkChallenge: Christmas Tree Disposal

ygk challenge, Christmas tree removal, KCVI Athletics, KARC, KingstonThe #ygkChallenge is an ongoing series where we dare you to be different, resolve to be better, and or do something awesome in support of our beloved community. Each week, Kingstonist establishes a new, ambitious or quirky goal, encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston (and the world) a slightly better place to live, work and play.

This week’s #ygkChallenge encourages you to:

Donate or compost your tree. Sigh, Christmas is over, and for many who have enjoyed a real tree in their home these last few weeks, it is time to take down the decorations and take the needle dropper outside. Thankfully there are a few options for disposing of your tree in and around Kingston. This week we challenge you to either donate or compost your Christmas tree. KCVI Athletics is collecting trees from curbs within Kingston for $12 per tree. Funds collected will go towards the KCVI rowing team. Tree pick up will occur this Sunday, January 8th between 8am and 3pm. Interested Kingstonians can sign up here. Another great option is to compost your tree at either the Kingston Area Recycling Centre (196 Lappan’s Lane) Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm and Saturday 8am to 4pm; or Norterra Organics (2069 Joyceville Rd) 8am to 4pm Monday-Friday. Either option will do something good for the community and Mother Earth, so be sure to make plans for your tree pick up today.

Join us in completing this week’s #ygkchallenge by liking it on Facebook and/or re-Tweeting it on Twitter. By liking and sharing, you’re not only committing to doing something great, but you’re also helping us spread the word and hopefully encouraging others to participate.
