The Pilot House
I really like fish and chips but it is hard to taste test them frequently because they are quite oily. I’ve heard from various sources that the Pilot House served the best fish and chips in Kingston so I decided to check it out. It is sort of a dodgy looking place but to be [...]

Zappas Lounge
Joy Supper Club closed maybe 9 months ago. I never really liked it. The main problem it had was theme nights. For example: on a Friday night, they would sometimes play Salsa music the entire night. I am all about diversity in club music and I often get tired of Top 40 but come on! [...]

Copper Penny
From the moment I arrived in Kingston, everyone I knew was raving about The Copper Penny. The locals loved it, the nurses loved it, J’s coworkers loved it. J’s coworker who… is also named J… recommended the Penny on the Farm. We looked at it on the menu and it was massive. “The largest platter [...]

The Kingston Brewing Company
Just as OB has Tango as their territory, we have Kingston Brew Pub as ours. We find ourselves there after work on many Fridays. In the summer, their patio is shaded and great for people watching. They also have a pretty awesome courtyard in the back (with a hilarious park bench on the roof… I [...]

Mia Gelato
In May, Mia Gelato opened just a few doors down from White Mountain. Prior to this, it was a shop owned by a Lebanese family who sold ice cream and shawarma. An interesting combination. I really enjoyed the shawarmas at 1am after going out at Joy. What I like most about Mia Gelato is that [...]

The Greek Islands
We decided to check out The Greek Islands after driving by it for many months while peering into its strangely unethnic interior. Don’t get me wrong. A place called The Greek Islands isn’t supposed to be particularly ethnic… but when I look into this place from Bath Road, I am reminded strangely of a Red [...]

The Tango
I am surprised I haven’t written about Tango much earlier. I’ve been here probably upwards of 15 times in my 2 years in Kingston. It really is a staple of downtown Kingston. I know that the OB team meets here every second Friday for drinks. They have never invited me. Tear. What drew me to [...]

Aroma Resto-Winebar
Unfortunately, Ontario and King streets are closed where they intersect with Princess street. This really kills the walkability of the formerly great area. I can only imagine how businesses are being hit by the now limited access. Aroma itself is now nestled beside many fences and construction sites. Ick! Fortunately, the interior has great ambience. [...]

Jade Garden
It really doesn’t look like much. Flourescent light. A yellowing sign. A corner spot in a small strip mall. The interior is even more dismal. Gaudy Chinese Emperors as placemats, a big TV above the “bar” area, and this cute kid riding his bike around the restaurant.
