Just in time for Summer, this month’s edition of the #ygkPlaylist offers up an eclectic mix of local bands. Sweet Talk Jackie gives us a straight up rock sound with hints of blues, soul and funk. Dan Doesn’t Sleep is a hip hop solo act who creates his own beats and collaborates with artists on both sides of the border. Rounding out the playlist is Sweep Trio, a group of young lads who combine varied backgrounds to create a unique and improvisational live experience. Be sure to check out their websites and social media below to hear more and to find out where you can catch them next.
Sweet Talk Jackie: Sweet Talk Jackie is Cole LeBlanc (guitar/vocals), Cameron Gravelle (bass/vocals), and Steve Vanden Engel (drums). The trio formed in 2015 and released their first full length album, Trains, Planes and Time Machines on June 10th. Their music is influenced by a wide variety of genres with “elements of Alt Rock, Blues and Soul chopped and mashed into a batter that’s been baked at 350F or 180C for 45-50 minutes give or take the type of oven you own), then glazed with a mixture of Classic Rock and Funk with a garnish of progressive on the side”. Since their album release Sweet Talk Jackie has been busy performing various venues in Kingston, on the island and out of town. Catch them tonight at The Toucan at 10pm. No cover. Find Sweet Talk Jackie on Facebook and Twitter.
