Anyone having trouble finding a hotel in Kingston needs to read today’s guide. While we continue to promote these beautiful, historic establishments, we also wanted to shed some light on some of the more affordable options nestled within our downtown neighbourhoods and country roads. No matter what your requirements, today’s post will certainly help you find something to suit your needs and your budget.
A Cherry Place Bed and Breakfast (899 Brodie Ave.): 613-389-1438: this Colonial-style b&b is minutes from downtown Kingston, air-conditioned, pet free and offers free wi-fi, satellite TV and parking. Two rooms are available with private bath and breakfast is served daily. Price: $75 to $109 per night.
B&B at Wolfe Island Manor (1 Thunder Rd., Wolfe Island): 343-333-1607: this Wolfe Island b&b offers 4 guest rooms, one with additional room for family and friends and all with private bath. There is a separate library with a piano, a living room with a fireplace, a large kitchen and a huge third floor rec room with billiards. There is also an in ground pool a pond and six acres of land. A different gourmet breakfast is served daily. Price: $145 to $245 per night.
Blue Horizon Bed and Breakfast (1767 5th Line Rd., Wolfe Island): 613-385-2900: this Victorian style home is located on Wolfe Island and offers views of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Guests will enjoy a private entrance, clean a spacious rooms, full breakfast and the sounds of the waves hitting the shore. Price: $85 to $120
Bon Accord Bed and Breakfast (275 Albert Street): 613-540-2378: owned by two artists, this self-proclaimed artful b&b a short walk from the downtown core. All the rooms are spacious and quiet, with a living/dining area, refrigerator, microwave, radio/alarm and TV and are ideal for people working on an 8 month contract or a degree. There is free parking and a bicycle shed and breakfast is served daily. Price: $125 per night with longer stay discounts.
Breakfast on Albert (287 Alfred St.): a short walk from downtown, the waterfront and Queen’s University, this comfortable and affordable bed and breakfast offers 4 bedrooms, a guest kitchen and living room. Price: $50 to $75 per night.
Brock Street B&B (397 Brock St.): 613-583-4506: a short walk from downtown, the waterfront and Queen’s University, this comfortable and affordable bed and breakfast offers 9 bedrooms, a guest kitchen, living room and private deck. Perfect for families and groups. Price: $50 to $75 per night.
De Haan’s B&B (1107 King St. W.): 613-766-9900: located west of the downtown core, this b&b is still a short car or bike ride from Kingston’s main attractions and only footsteps from walking trails and lake Ontario. Three rooms with private bath are offered as is wi-fi and a full breakfast. Price: $60 to $100 per night.
Dreamcatcher’s Inn (1277 Main St., Wolfe Island): 613-385-2635: located on Wolfe Island, this b&b opened as a hotel in the late 1800s, it was purchased and refurbished by its current owners and re-opened in 2005. There are 8 rooms, all with private bath and various combinations of queen and twin beds to suit your needs. Breakfast is served featuring seasonal produce. No pets, no credit cards. $110 < per night.
Elizabeth’s Rose Cottage Bed and Breakfast (290 Frontenac St.): 613-546-4733: this century home is 1 block from Queen’s, and offers off street parking and breakfast. There are 3 rooms with shared bathrooms and some air conditioning. No pets. Price: $60-$85 per night.
Frontenac Club Inn (225 King St. E.): 613-547-4707: this 1845 heritage limestone building has 13 spacious rooms, 11 with fireplaces and 4 with jacuzzis. All rooms have air conditioning, Internet access, television and either a claw foot or soaker tub. Breakfast is complimentary and it includes freshly baked bread. My mom swears by this place. Price: $165 to $240 per night.
Gillian Fisher Bed and Breakfast (38 Clergy St. E.): 613-549-3569: this historic limestone home offers two rooms, both with private bath. Located very close to downtown, open all year, parking available. Price: $65 to $95 per night.
Green Woods Inn (1368 Hwy 15): 613-544-1922: located in a restored country home far enough away from downtown Kingston, but still within reach of the city. The Inn has four luxurious rooms, all with ensuite bathrooms, air conditioning, and WiFi access. Their to die for breakfasts feature lots of locally grown and organic ingredients. Price: $135 to $170 per night.
Hochelaga Inn (24 Sydenham St. S.): 613-549-5534: historic charm dating back to 1859. This B&B has 22 non-smoking rooms, all with private baths, WiFi, television and some with fireplaces or jacuzzis. They’ve even partnered with James Brett to offer spa and coiffure services. 24 hour access to coffee, tea & cookies. Price: $99 (breakfast not included) to $180 per night.
Hotel Belvedere, 141 King Street East, 613-548-1565: decades ago this place was described by Vogue Magazine as the only reason to stop between Toronto and Montreal. Nowadays they offer 20 unique rooms, with televisions, WiFi, daily newspapers, private baths, and some with whirlpools. A light breakfast can be served in your room or taken in the living room next to the fireplace. Price: $110 to $250 per night.
Jean’s Guest House (367 College St.): bright, clean accommodations within walking distance from downtown. 1.5 shared bathrooms, free wi-fi (free laptop also available to borrow), air conditioning and plenty of free parking and garage space for bikes. No pets, no credit cards. Price: $60 to $100 per night.
O’Brien House Bed and Breakfast (39 Glenaire Mews): 613-542-8660: located between downtown and the 401, this b&b was established in 1988 and offers a variety of suites. Free parking, air conditioning and breakfast are included. Ice, coffee and tea available anytime. Price: $59 to $95 per night.
Phyllis’ Bed and Breakfast (2166 Middle Road): 613-542-0879: Quiet country setting 15 minutes from downtown Kingston. Ground floor private suite with private bath. Single or double upstairs rooms with shared bath. Price: $50 to $125 per night.
Rosa’s Bed and Breakfast (629 Johnson St.): 613-546-4848: an elegantly restored century home located a short walk from downtown Kingston. Private bathroom and a three bedroom suite with 2 bathrooms for groups or families. Enjoy breakfast (vegetarian and gluten free available) on a private back deck. Price: $60 to $130 per night.
Rosemount Inn & Spa (46 Sydenham St. S.): 613-531-8844: this 1850 Tuscan-style villa is a stone’s throw away from downtown Kingston. Rosemount offers 11 luxuriously appointed rooms, which come with WiFi, air conditioning, fireplaces, soaker tubs, body jet showers and the option to partake in a vinotherapy spa treatment. Summer House Inn Bed and Breakfast (240 King St. E.): 613-545-7812: this Victorian style home was built in 1829 and offers 4 luxury guest rooms, each decorated to represent a season. The Inn offers views of the Kingston waterfront and is located in the heart of downtown Kingston. Guests are treated to a gourmet breakfast.
The Briar Patch (385 Bath Rd.): 613-531-9222: this 170 year old home has 4 non-smoking guest rooms, which come complete with air conditioning, jacuzzis, Internet access, cable TV and much more. The Tymparon Inn (1403 Hwy 15): 613-545-3663: a cultural heritage home 5 minutes out of town. Built in 1865, this home has been refurbished and includes 3 guest rooms, each with their own private bathroom, wi-fi, an outdoor hot tub, complimentary transportation downtown, beautiful outdoor are with patio and activities such as bocce ball and horseshoes available. They also offer mountain bikes to borrow, central air, free, secure parking for cars, canoes, kayaks etc., and much more. Price: $110 to $140 per night.
