Kingstonist’s Challenge #78: Rescue An Animal

Animal Rescue, Humane SocietyWelcome to Kingstonist’s weekly challenge, dare, resolution or whatever you prefer to call it. Each week we establish a new and ambitious community goal, encouraging our readers, followers, friends and families to step out of their comfort zones and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. Consider this your official and personal invitation to join us in completing a small but meaningful achievement. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston a slightly better place to live, work and play. And of course, we also hope that you will feel proud of your contribution and achievement.

This week’s challenge encourages you to:

Rescue an animal.   Pets make wonderful friends and are a lot of fun to have around.  I smile every time my cat enters the room, and I know he feels safe and happy and thankful that we adopted him nearly ten years ago.  The Kingston Humane Society and Kingston Animal Rescue are full of animals in need of a Forever Home, and at this time of year, there is a huge influx of cats in particular.  I never had a pet until this little guy came into my life and now I can’t imagine not having a little fur ball running around my house.  Of course, owning a pet isn’t for everyone.  If you’re not home enough to care for him or her, then it’s best not to adopt.  Allergic?  Birds and other small animals make great friends too.  If it’s just not in the cards for you, The Humane Society is always looking for volunteers or, as some of my brave friends do, you can always go in just to pet the animals and give them some human contact.  (I say “brave” because I know if I tried this I’d be going home with kittens in my pockets.)  An awesome thing my husband’s mom did when he was a kid was fostering a mom cat as she nursed her kittens. This is also an option and can be a fun way to educate your kids.  Whatever you choose, there are numerous ways to make a difference in the life of an animal, so consider it this week!

Thanks to my handsome boy Logan for today’s photo.

Awww…. Logan is such a sweetie! This is a challenge close to my heart. I have six little rescue critters who have enriched my life in so many ways that I can’t imagine ever being petless.
