Puppet Cabaret

The Puppet Cabaret presents an evening of spectacle, as puppet performers and their human counterparts spin a tale of celestial love for earth-bound things.

Audiences are drawn into the risqué and dimly lit underworld of the Puppet Cabaret, amidst lion taming, opera singing, swinging legs and sequin glitter, where performers indulge in beauty, satire and the odd attempt at introspection through puppetry poetics.

This dark-toned fairytale draws talents from the Purple Dragon Puppet Troupe and various corners of the community to explore elements of puppetry, masked movement, music, and sound art in live performance. It is made possible with the generous support from the City of Kingston Arts Fund.

The program opens up with the Cardboard Cabaret, a carnival sideshow of singing, stilt dancing, poi-spinning and live music. We are still looking for community involvement in the Cardboard Cabaret: poets, puppet side-shows, dancers, musicians, jugglers, magicians welcome! First time performers as well as professionals looking to play please contact Aleks (kingstonpuppetcabaret@gmail.com)

Performances will be held at the Upper Canada Academy of Performing Arts, located in the St Mary’s Parish Centre at 250 Brock St. Advance tickets are available at Novel Idea for 7$ each; tickets at the door will be available at a sliding price range of $7-13.
