Studio22 Open Gallery presents Impression : Expression an exhibit by Holly Dean and Larry Thompson. This exhibition features complementary work which explores the artists’ ongoing fascination with the connection between past and present, be it historical or fantastical.
Holly’s love of calligraphy, medieval manuscripts, nature and gothic architecture inspires her evocative, abstract mixed media artwork, altered images and book art.
Larry’s love of typography informs his use of the ancient techniques of bookbinding, block printing and letterpress printing to create illustrated broadsides, prints and books.
In their work, Holly and Larry share the use of line, text and design to convey the inspiration they draw from both classical and fantasy narratives. As individual artists, their work expresses a pleasing contrast between rich layers of colour and texture, and the tactile black and white impression of letterpress.
