Apply To Serve On A City Board Or Committee

The City is looking for 29 people to fill vacancies on seven of its committees and boards and this year is holding a Volunteer Recruitment Information Sharing event at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 in Memorial Hall, City Hall, 216 Ontario St.

“Our goal is to recruit a diverse group of innovative, bright, hard-working individuals to be part of a slate that would be considered by Council for appointment,” says Kevin Arjoon, Deputy City Clerk. “Many City decisions depend heavily on the input, knowledge and guidance of dedicated volunteers who graciously give their time to serve Kingston.”

The City has 40 committees and boards that provide Council and City staff with input on a wide variety of subjects through discussions, presentations and recommendations.

While pre-registration is not required, those interested in attending the Volunteer Recruitment Information Sharing event should call Diane Jackson of the Clerk’s Department at City Hall, 613-546-4291, ext. 1375, djackson@cityofkingston.ca by Monday, Oct. 17. This will ensure everyone is accommodated.

City Councillors, City staff, Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs will be on hand to speak to the importance of volunteers, and to make presentations and answer questions about specific committees. There will also be a presentation of the City’s Corporate Strategic Plan.

A full listing of committees is available on the City’s website. Interested Kingstonians can review further details regarding current openings, download an application or apply online by Wednesday, Oct. 26 through the “Apply to Serve” link on that site – or by contacting Diane Jackson, who is the City’s Records Clerk, Bylaws and Agreements.
