CFRC 101.9FM, Kingston’s only campus-community radio station, presents a HMMM led by Kathy Kennedy as the fourth and final event in its 2010-11 RadioActive Carnival series of sound performance.
The HMMM is a large-scale, outdoor, community-based sound installation made by people and radios humming together. It is an immersive experience with sound that can be heard from many different vantage points. At the same time, it is non-intrusive, and never very loud in any one spot. The HMMM is conceived of and led by Montreal-based sound and vocal artist Kathy Kennedy, whose passion is creating innovative contexts for people to sing together.
All are invited to meet by the amphitheatre in Market Square to participate. Join us as we hum our way through downtown Kingston, accompanied by a soundtrack broadcast on CFRC 101.9fm. This event is free. In case of rain, bring an umbrella! Tune into CFRC at 101.9fm or online on Friday, July 8 at 5pm for an in-depth interview with the artist. Kathy Kennedy will discuss the concept and practice of the HMMM on the “Finding a Voice” program, hosted by local poet Bruce Kauffman.
