City And CUPE Reach Tentative Contract Deal

The City of Kingston and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 109 are jointly announcing a tentative agreement on the new 2011 employment contract.

Minutes of settlement were signed by officials for both the City and CUPE on March 23, 2011. No details of the deal are being released pending ratification by both parties. CUPE has scheduled a membership ratification meeting for April 13.

“We are pleased with the common ground that the City and CUPE have reached with this tentative agreement,” said Patricia Burns, Director of Human Resources and Organizational Development. “We feel it is a fair and responsible agreement for both CUPE members and the City of Kingston.”

“We feel it is a fair deal for both parties,” said John Hale, President of CUPE Local 109. “Our negotiating team will be recommending the agreement to our members.”

The deal will affect approximately 1,000 CUPE members with the City of Kingston.

The tentative deal is expected to be presented for ratification to City Council at its Tuesday, April 19, regular meeting.
