Thunderstorm, lightning, Kingston, OntarioIt’s almost as though the holiday weekend was extended over the entire week for Kingstonist, as we experienced a huge crash in productivity and a less than stellar publishing rate.  Sorry for the downturn, but on the other hand it feels good to take some time away and recharge the batteries every once in a while.  Rest assured, next week we’ve got a great summertime feature lined up, and some other stories brewing away in the slow cooker.

This week, early bird tickets officially went on sale for the Wolfe Island Music Festival, which will feature the likes of Shad, The Sadies, The Open Heart Society and many other great Canadian acts.  In other festival news, yesterday we learned of a new 27-day long celebration of Canada’s first Prime Minister, aptly named MacDonald Festival.  I have to admit that my interest was instantly peaked by this festival, until I discovered that they’d ripped off Kingstonist’s iconic profile picture that features Sir John A. wearing a colourful party hat.  I mean honestly, ours is a great design, and imitation is best form of flattery, however I can’t help but feel slighted by whomever took the liberty of borrowing our original concept for use on their promotional material.  Hopefully we’ll be able to resolve this mistake in short order.

Speaking of giving credit where credit is due, something we’re very keen on doing, today’s amazing photo was brought to you by Tim Forbes.  His shot captures the amazing thunder and lightning show mother nature put on over the Limestone City last Wednesday evening.  It was truly spectacular, but much to the chagrin of local gardeners, the storm provided very little in terms of precipitation.

Can't wait to see The Weakerthans at WIMF!

*Incidentally, I've seen 'The Saddies' typo elsewhere… not sure who's propagating that, but I'm pretty sure it's 'The Sadies' who sound far less depressing than 'The Saddies'.
