Soul Shakedown parties aim to bring the best in rare dance grooves from funk, soul to Latin, Brazilian, Pan-African, Arabic, Asian Dub, Bhangra Hip Hop and more. The party raises funds for organizations doing social justice work and groups that challenge the status quo of neoliberal capitalism and colonization. They also strive to construct a safe space where diverse peoples can shake it out with freedom and flair.
This month’s Shakedown will raise funds for Loving Spoonful (not the band, but the great organization that promotes food security in Kingston). The party will get started at Time to Laugh at 10pm. $8 before 11pm, $10 thereafter.
