Santa Claus Parade, political correctness, Christmas, Kingston, OntarioTomorrow night, some time between the Fat Goose Craft Fair and Kyra and Tully’s CD Release Party, swarms of children, young and old, will converge on lower Princess Street in hopes of catching a glimpse of jolly old Saint Nic.  As a part of the Santa Claus Parade, floats, lights, candy, and other trappings of the festive season will chug along, and spread Christmas cheer to one and all.  It seems as though we were just dressing up for Halloween, and then someone flicked a magical switch, which littered Kingston’s stores with jingle bells and boughs of holly.  It’s not as though I am against Christmas, rather, I’ve been growing tired of starting the celebration so far in advance.  Furthermore, I’m also adverse to the severe amounts of political correctness surrounding religious holidays, which make it unacceptable to utter terms such as Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, snow flake etc…  As someone who was raised on good ol’ fashioned Christmas, whether you’re lighting the menorah, or resorting to the annual airing of grievances, let’s celebrate together!  Variety is the spice of life, while ignorance is not bliss – it’s oblivion.  If you’re bound for tomorrow’s Santa Claus Parade, spread some holiday cheer by bringing a non-perishable food item for the Partners in Mission Food Bank.  Donations will be accepted en route by the folks in the bright green vests.  Thanks to Stéfan for the photo of Santa in lock down.
