Robo Billiards

In case you thought Kingston was immune to enslavement by robotic overlords, think again. The guys in the RCV Lab at Queen’s University have developed Deep Green, a robot that plays pool. By the looks of it, Deep Green could school the best the Pool Hall has to offer. In addition, they gang in the RCV Lab also unveiled a futuristic pool cue that lets amateur players perfectly line up their shots, and sink balls from impossible angels. Will their inventions revolutionize the “sport” or could they ruin it? Will Deep Green be destroyed by John Connor and time travelling robots?

Funny this article reminded me of how a number of years ago robots were all the rage…Shows like Robot Wars were the norm and every kid with extra computer parts lying around were making a robot in their garage…Personally I love the idea of a robot pool player…

As for the pool cue that lines up the shot for ya…How soon can they put that into production? And can they make the laser invisible unless your wearing special glasses…lol…no seriously love the concept.

I really like the “augmented reality” portion of this video. I had never heard of that term before about a year ago but now it seems to be all the rage with smart phones using GPS and accelerometers. Once limited to military and flight applications maybe AR is about to hit the mainstream.
