The p.i.n.e. project is a nonprofit organization created to bring the wonders of the natural world back to the urban jungle. Programs are focused on connecting with the world right outside our door through primitive and indigenous skills, and naturalist studies. Learn to see the natural world with new eyes, and gain incredible skills that you can use anywhere. Be more, need less.
FIRE BY FRICTION WORKSHOP
WHEN: Sat., September 12th from 1pm – 6pm,
WHERE: Kingston, Ontario. We will meet in City Park, just before 1pm to begin.
COST: Pay what you can, with a suggested scale of $15-$30.
Workshop includes: Knife safety, various fire structures and natural materials, and hands-on learning with the bow drill and hand drill method of fire by friction.
You must bring: A locking blade, or non-folding knife, a STRONG, straight, branchless stick about as long as your arm, and just thicker than your thumb, and a strong rope as long as your wingspan. No joke, a notebook and pen would be wise too!
URBAN EDIBLES WALK
When: Come out for a walk on Saturday September 13, starting at the Field House
in City Park from 11am until 1pm. Your front lawn will never look the same,
and a walk in the park may have you adding incredibly healthy and tasty wild
edibles to your evening salad on a regular basis.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
• Local hazards and poisonous lookalikes
• Field guide use and proper field identification techniques
• Harvesting in urban environments, and local edibles.
Our time will be spent out in the field learning, gathering, and trying wild
edibles. This is an intro session, so don’t expect to go home with a huge
salad, but we’ll get a chance to get to know a handful of local wild edible
plants.
Cost: PWYC $5-$20, with all money going to support P.I.N.E. children’s
programming in Toronto! Be sure to bring a notebook and pen!
