Calendar Launch

So Kingstonist’s worst kept secret is out! I’m thrilled to officially announce the launch of the Kingstonist Events Calendar. Do you see it? No? Take a look on the right side of the screen and you’ll see a brief run down of current and upcoming events in the Limestone City. Click on any of these events, and you’ll be transported to a land filled with calendar goodness, which details community events in areas such as: music, art, theatre, sports, academia, the environment and much, much more! Although the calendar is maintained by the Kingstonist team, we rely entirely on you, our loyal reader, to keep it up to date. So let’s get to work!

The new calendar, while being fairly simple to install, is a bit messy under the hood. Think about a bike with 4 extra chains kind of messy. So while we’re able to post events, and give you details on where they’re happening, I’m actually already in planning stages for a newer, improved version of the calendar. You’ll notice, too, that we’re experimenting with a new “sidebar-free” layout for the full calendar. We may use this elsewhere in the future, too.

I also want to point out that the highly successful Friday events show down, which various Kingstonist contributors have had a hand in putting together, is not being replaced by this fancy new tool. Quite the opposite, as we hope that the calendar will augment our ability to provide you with broader coverage of what’s going on in our community. Furthermore, as we get a better understanding of what types of events you’re submitting to us, we’ll be better prepared to target them for more in depth coverage.

So… What sort of stuff do you want to see on the Kingstonist calendar? Whether you’re in charge of marketing for a local art gallery, or are organizing volunteers to clean up a city park, we want to help. To submit such an event to the calendar, or to tip us off on something you’d like us to feature, please contact our Events Guru to get the party started. Enjoy it!

Amazing job Tommy! I can’t wait to see where this will take us, and what kind of changes you want to make for future versions. Thanks once again.
