Weekly Photo
Well old George never gives up and he never fails. This guy has been around a long time now, but man, does he still know how to rock. George normally only plays smaller shows, while this show at the K-Rock Centre is what would be considered a big show for Thorogood, as the venue has over 3,000 seats. It was a small theatre setup so there was no bad seat, and even those in the very back had a good view with the stage being at center ice. You can view additional pictures of the show by visiting my portfolio.
May Comment Contest Winner
Kingstonist has made some very promising progress during the month of May, as we’ve continued to increase our readership, and audience participation thanks to your invaluable comments. New team members such as Duke Smythe have provided a historical perspective of the Limestone City, while Zenith’s weekly photo’s have offered another glimpse into the goings on around Kingston. The addition of Lauren Raham, a seasoned editor, has also been encouraging as she’s identified a few aspects of the site we can make better. As well, we’re really looking forward to the involvement of local new media specialist Tommy Vallier, who brings a great deal of vision and experience to our burgeoning slice of the Interweb. I would be remiss if I did not mention the efforts of all the regular and guest contributors including: Danielle Lennon, Isabel Cooper, David Bailey and Matt Pedlar, who have been instrumental in making Kingstonist.com the best alternative news source in Kingston. If you want to join the team, simply drop us a line.
And now the moment you’ve all been waiting for. It gives me great pleasure to announce the winner of our May Comment Contest is non other than our most active commenter, Ian Jackson. As promised, he will receive a gift certificate to his choice of French Bistro, le Chien Noir, or goumet pizzeria, Atomica. To the rest of our commenting audience, I want to thank you for your fantastic feedback, which I hope you’ll continue to provide as we make the final push towards Summer. By the end of this week, we’ll be announcing details regarding our June Comment Contest, so stay tuned.
Beat Beethoven
After living in Kingston for nearly 8 years, I have never been available to take in the Beat Beethoven fundraiser for the Kingston Symphony Orchestra. Fortunately, I made it down to City Hall today where Kingston’s finest musicians played Beethoven’s Symphony No.3, while runners attempted to complete 4 and 8km courses. The turn out was exceptional, the music was divine and we documented every minute Beat Beethoven alongside all the race supporters. Check out the massive number of pictures from the event on our Flickr page, as well as videos of runners and performance on our YouTube channel. Last but not least is the unbelievable interview David Bailey, our resident podcaster, scored with Glen Fast, Conductor of the Kingston Symphony. The Maestro provides insight into the event, the composition of our local orchestra, and the arts in general in Kingston. If you missed out this year, be sure to mark your calendar for the 2009 Beat Beethoven run in Kingston.
