Is Rosen a False Messiah?

If you transited the area between Princess Street and Queen’s University this weekend, you may have caught a brief glimpse of a set of posters featuring our sometimes loveable, though often despised, Mayor Harvey Rosen. According to reports, the posters featured the Mayor’s smiling mug with embellishments such as long hair, and a goatee, which gave him a Jesus-like appearance. His altered image was accompanied by the words “false messiah”, and in a few locations, disturbing anti-semitic language was also discovered. The posters were reported after a resident noticed them on mail boxes, telephone booths and bus stops in the Sydenham Ward. Kingston Police were called, and they quickly began removing them. Anyone know where we can get a copy?
Apparently Big Harv took the posters with a grain of salt, and even claimed that he wanted one for his scrap book. That’s funny, as I never figured him for the scrap book kind of guy. Whether or not someone was simply trying to show off their Photoshop skills, it’s clear that someone has had enough of Kingston’s Mayor. In that respect, we did receive a couple emails this morning, inquiring as to whether or not Kingstonist had any involvement in the campaign. I myself have not seen the posters, but can honestly say that Kingstonist had nothing to do with this, and that we condemn such discriminatory acts.
Focusing on the posters themselves, I’m detecting a significant amount of sarcasm surrounding the false messiah claim. With an election on the horizon in 2009, the Mayor has done little to gain additional support since his marginal re-election in 2006. The LVEC and Grand Theatre projects were completed during his time in the big chair, and Kingston is currently red hot for new development, however serious claims have recently been made against our Mayor. There’s the potential conflict of interest over the naming rights to the K-Rock Centre, and a pending lawsuit regarding land deals involving his family-owned real estate development company. It seems as though transparency may be in short supply, but rest assured that Rosen’s reign is coming to a close. Do you think that he’ll ever see the witness stand, or is he made of Teflon?

Just a correction…
As a cost-cutting maneuver in 2006 (During the 2nd session of the 38th parliament), the Ontario Legislative Assembly passed a bill which changed municipal terms from 3 years to 4.
You can see the text in Schedule H of Bill #81. Here’s a link to Bill 81.
Schedule H is towards the bottom.
So perhaps Harvey is going to hold off until mid-2009 to start drumming up support?
Edited, as I originally wrote “anti-semantic” rather than “anti-semitic”. Great job to whomever picked that up.
Re-reading the article and my first comment - I realize I may not have been clear.
With the last election in 2006, and a shift to 4-year cycles, the next will be in 2010, not 2009 as shown in the story.
